Hartwick Athletics Hall of Fame
Jack Phelan ’09 is one of the most decorated Hartwick receivers in program history, earning recognition on four separate All-America teams in his final two seasons. Phelan was the national statistical champion in reception yards and reception yards per game in both his junior year and senior year.
He was twice named an Empire 8 Conference First Team honoree, an ECAC Northwest All-Star, a D3football.com All-Region Player, and a D3football.com First Team All-American. His senior year, he was also an AFCA First Team and an Associated Press Second Team All-American after setting the NCAA Division III record for touchdown catches (26) in a season and touchdown receptions per game (2.6), which are records that still stood at the time of his induction.
He helped the Hawks to their first Empire 8 Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2007, two straight postseason berths, and a record of 15-6 over his final two years. In 2011, Phelan was named to the D3football.com 2000s All-Decade Team.
In the Hartwick record books, Phelan was the all-time leader in touchdown catches (50), was second in points scored (300), third in receiving yards (3,320) and sixth in receptions (146) at the time of induction.
