Jeff Tipping appeared as either a player or coach for Hartwick College men's soccer team in five NCAA Final Fours.

As a player, Tipping started for four years and appeared in three NCAA Final Fours. His play helped lead the team to the 1977 NCAA Championship and was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the final four. Drafted into the American Soccer League, he was captain of the Pennsylvania Stoners for five seasons, earning All-Pro recognition three times (1979-81) and winning the league title in 1980.

He returned to Hartwick as an assistant men's soccer and head lacrosse coach in 1982, and helped Hartwick to two more final four appearances. He later became Director of Soccer and men's golf coach at Muhlenberg College, and led the soccer team to the Division III Final Four in 1995, and the golf team to a NCAA bid in 1997.

He became an NSCAA Staff Coach in 1983 and also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women's National Team, providing advisory prior to the 1999 Women's World Cup.

In 2002 he was named Director of Coaching Education for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
