Cushion, a native of Liverpool, England, tallied 116 points (50 goals, 16 assists) during a highly successful period in Hartwick soccer history. At the time of induction, he was ranked third on the College's all-time scoring (116) and career goals (50) lists.

During this era, Hartwick advanced to consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances in 1984 and 1985. As a sophomore, Cushion accumulated 40 points (17 goals, six assists) to help the 1984 squad finish with a 16-5-1 record. He then scored 19 points (eight goals, three assists) for the 1985 team that closed the season with a 17-3-1 record.

As a freshman, Cushion scored 34 points (15 goals, four assists) for the squad on the way to a 13-4-1 record. His career also started with an Oneonta Mayor's Cup Tournament Most Valuable Player Award. There was also individual recognition as he received All-Region and All-New York honors during his four-year career. Cushion concluded his career with 23 points (10 goals, three assists) as a senior and helped the squad post a 13-7-1 record.

Before his arrival at Hartwick, Cushion scored 251 goals over an eight-year period as a schoolboy for the renowned De La Salle Grammar School in Liverpool, England. He finished his final season with 49 goals. Cushion also represented the select Merseyside County team for three seasons.
