Hartwick Athletics Hall of Fame
Dave Root ’94 is the first two-time men’s lacrosse All-American at Hartwick College. A transfer from Herkimer County Community College, Root led Hartwick to 24 victories in his two seasons, which included two Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Upstate Tournament appearances and the 1992 title.
Root, a midfielder, racked up 185 career ground balls to go along with 85 points, 49 goals, and 36 assists. His 94 ground balls as a junior is tied for the 9th-highest single-season total in Hartwick history.
Root was twice named to the Empire Athletic Association First Team and twice he earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Honorable Mention All-America honors. After his senior season, he earned an invitation to the prestigious USILA North/South Game and he was the Hartwick recipient of the Harry Mosher Award.
He also was a wide receiver and return specialist for Hartwick football in 1993. He led the Warriors in receiving yards, touchdown receptions, average yards per reception, and ranked second in receptions and scoring.
