Rick Trainer is one of the most prolific track and field athletes in Hartwick College history.

A two-time NCAA Division II qualifier in both track and field and cross country, Trainer earned All-American honors in 1980 in the steeplechase.

Twice he was named to the Division II All-Star teams for both track and field and cross country.

At the time of induction he held school records in the 1500 meters, the mile, and the 3000 meters for indoor track and field, as well as outdoor records for the 800, 1500, 3000 meter steeplechase and the 4 x 1600 meter relay.

He won the school's Harry Mosher Award in 1980.

After completing his career at Hartwick, Trainer has been competitive at the World Duathlon (run and bike) Championships, finishing in the top ten three times in the 1990's, including a fifth place finish in 1993.
