Willie Rackley was a prolific scorer who played two seasons on the men's basketball team after transferring from the Junior College of Albany. He scored a total of 1,020 points and led the team in scoring both years.

In 1970-1971, Rackley became the first men's basketball player to earn All-American honors in the history of the program. He played as a shooting guard and small forward for Hall of Fame head coach Roy Chipman, and led the team to the NCAA Division II Tournament in 1970 and 1971.

At the time of time of his induction, Rackley was one of only 26 players in school history to score over 1,000 points. However, he accomplished the rare feat in only two seasons.

In the 1969-1970 season, Rackley averaged 19.2 points and seven rebounds per game for Hartwick, which finished with an 18-6 record. He made 159 of 231 field goal attempts and set the school record for field goal percentage in a season at .688 – which stands as the record at the time of his induction 33 years later.

As a senior in 1970-1971, Rackley scored a total of 579 points and averaged 21.5 points per game. At the time of his induction, Rackley's single season point total (579) ranked as the second highest in school history. He led Hartwick to a 21-6 record, and scored a career-high 40 points in a game.
