Hartwick Athletics Hall of Fame
Edwin Ruiz ’05 was an All-American and conference Player of the Year forward/midfielder for Hartwick. Ruiz arrived at ’Wick after winning a national title (2001) and earning All-America honors (2002) at Bryant & Stratton College. In his first season with the Hawks, he scored five goals and assisted seven others, earning New York State All-Region and ASC All-Conference honors. Ruiz exploded in his senior year, registering 13 goals, including six game-winning tallies, and nine assists. He led the ASC in goals, assists, and points per game and ranked in the national top 20 in all three categories. He was named the Atlantic Soccer Conference Player of the Year and to the ASC First Team and repeated as an all-region pick. He was later tapped as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Second Team All-American. In his two seasons, Ruiz helped the Hawks to 28 wins, five losses, and four ties. He was selected eleventh in the 2005 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft by the Kansas City Wizards.
